Exile Hair design is a modern hair salon based on urban Mt Eden Road, which was opened on the 1st March 2001 by Jo Donaldson. Jo is a hair dresser wanting to set up her own salon, with the vision to make a trip to the hair dressers more than just 'getting a haircut'. So with the support of her grandparents she set up Exile Hair Design, which today is seen as a modern, relaxing and friendly environment with excellent service.

Exile started out with just two staff, with a rustic and dated decor. The local community has supported the hair salon and today you will see a bustling, trendy business that has ten staff and a loyal clientele. Six staff members are full time, and four are part timers, all enjoying and growing with the busy salon.

Exile Hair Design has been with Schwarzkopf for seven years now, working together on developing the business. One of the Exile staff members was successful in joining the Schwarzkopf creative team, where Exile Hair Design was exposed to upcoming shows and competitions, bringing a new creative aspect to the team.

Recently, another staff member joined the GHD Expert team, exposing the whole team to overseas presenters and fashions. The Exile team has also entered a few photographic competitions, and they all look forward to continuing and improving on this.

Today Exile’s philosophy is to “Take extra special care with customer service, and make sure the client will walk out with fabulous hair after a relaxing time out of their busy lifestyles”. Exile staff cares about the customers - where they have been and their life experiences. They believe in constantly learning, as not a day goes by when a new thing cannot be learnt.

Jo has a true passion for the business and says “hairdressing is the most interesting and creative job. You get to meet new people every day and interact and bond with regular clients”. This is evident at Exile, and reflects on her staff and successful business.

Exile Hair Design prides themselves on being friendly and approachable. With hair being a major part of the client’s personal identity, their aim is to create an up-to-date haircut and colour that works for the individual.
